My Dance Journey
I have been dancing since I was 5 years old, and my dance journey is defined by many phases and dance styles:
Intro to Indian Classical Dance: I trained in Bharata Natyam from ages 5-17 at Kruti Dance Academy under Guru Dina Sheth, and I completed my Arangetram (debut solo performance) at age 17.
Competitive Bhangra: As I pursued my bachelor’s degree at Georgia Tech, I founded and captained my competitive Bhangra team (Georgia Tech Bhangra). I trained over 60 dancers in my 3 years as captain, and led the team to 15+ national competitions and 6 wins.
Continuous Learning: I began my professional career in New York City as a consultant and took classes with experts in various dance styles. I began training in a new classical Indian dance style of Kathak under Barkha Patel.
My Gujarati culture: I grew up with the Gujarati folk dance style Garba, which I performed at Navratri and other festivals throughout the year.
Teaching: I began teaching workshops when I moved to Chicago for my Masters’ degrees. Since completing my grad programs, I have toured and taught in 10 cities and now teach workshops in NYC
